April is an American journalist and author who is famous for her profession as a correspondent. April has been a White House correspondent from 1997. Other titles Ms. Ryan has include being a political analyst for CNN and bureau chief for Washington, D.C., for American Urban Radio Networks. She was crowned the “Journalist of the Year” in May 2017 by the National Association of Black Journalists. As a writer, she has written the books; Under Fire, At Mama’s Knee and The Presidency in Black and White. She is as well a 2019 inductee into the Delta Sigma Theta sorority as a honorary member.

She studied broadcast journalism from the Morgan State University, she completed with a B.S. degree and a 2017 honorary doctorate from the institution. From Claflin University, she was awarded another honorary doctorate. After finishing her B.S. degree education, April got to the media world as a jazz disc jockey. With time, she became a reporter serving with radio stations among them; North Carolina A&T University and as a news director for WXYV-FM in Baltimore, Maryland.
Thereafter she joined the White House press corps in January 1997 serving for the American Urban Radio Networks. As of 2020, April has aired four presidential administrations as a White House correspondent. She is one of the National Press Club and has worked on the board of the White House Correspondent’s Association, one of only three African Americans to be on the board.
