Lofton’s first major television role was also his longest, as Jake Sisko, the son of the protagonist character, Benjamin Sisko, on the science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, that aired from 1993 to 1999. In the episode “PK” of 7th Heaven from September 2003, he acted Maynard, a preacher’s son who went to Harvard. He cast as Curtis Thorpe, a professional basketball player, on the Showtime drama series The Hoop Life, and Anthony Carter, a law student, on the show Soul Food. Lofton acted Tommy Boyer in the CBS TV series CSI: Miami episode “Darkroom” from 2006.
