News, but he was sent away after he was overheard on a live microphone during an online broadcast in the 2012 Republican National Convention claiming that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney together with his wife Ann Romney were “not concerned at all” and “happy to have a party with black people drowning” at the time of hurricane Isaac. Chalian later tendered his apology for his words, saying, “I am deeply sorry for making such an insensitive and foolish joke. I was talking about the difficulty of having a convention during a cyclone, and also campaign optics. I am apologetic to the Romney campaign, and I’d like to openly apologize to Governor and Mrs. Romney.
