Murphy before then served as a journalist for CBS’s daily news program The Early Show from 2002 to 2006. Prior to that, she served as a feature and traffic reporter for WPIX-TV in New York City from 2000 to 2002. Murphy started her on-camera journalism profession as a morning live feature reporter for News 12 New Jersey (1996-2000). Murphy before worked as a news writer and field producer for WCBS-TV in New York from 1996 to 1998. While there, she got her first National Academy of TV Arts and Sciences (Emmy Award).
Murphy, the last airborne reporter on September 11th 2001, reported on the collapse of both global Trade Center towers she was also one of the two New York City reporters appointed for Emmy Awards for their September 11th breaking news coverage. She bagged an Emmy in the year 2002 for her piece commemorating the 9/11 anniversary. Murphy got an Emmy for excellence On-Camera Achievement for Feature Reporting from WPIX, and also a New York State Broadcasters Association award for Best Feature. She was as well nominated for an Emmy for her on-camera series of stories concerning a row house fire. She as well got an Emmy for TV writing while at WCBS.
