He went to Brigham Young University and by the time he was graduating from the university, he was nominated in the 1993 NFL Draft as the 92nd pick. In the NFL, he played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1993 to 1997 and also with the Carolina Panthers in 1998.

He spread the Gospel while schooling at the same time at the Southern Evangelical Seminary for a Master of Divinity Degree (M.Div.), with an objective in apologetics. Derwing got his degree when he graduated magna cum laude.
Come January 2010, Pastor Derwin was the lead pastor of Transformation Church in South Carolina. Afterwards, he earned a Doctorate of Ministry in the New Testament in Context from Northern Seminary under Dr. Scot McNight.
Pastor Derwin is as well a speaker who many times gives speeches at very many conferences in the U.S. Due to that, he is mostly referred to as the “Evangelism Linebacker”.
